There are 7 grades of membership:

  1. Honorary Fellow
  2. Fellow
  3. Member
  4. Associate Member
  5. Students
  6. Associates
  7. Retired Members

Honorary Fellows, Fellows and Members are all Corporate Members.

Fellows shall be persons who have been educated in and trained in Minerals Engineering or an ancillary branch thereof or in a science associated therewith to a standard acceptable to the Council and who have the relevant experience. Fellows may use the letters F.M.E.S. 

Members shall be persons who have been educated in and trained in Minerals Engineering or an ancillary branch thereof or in a science associated therewith to a standard acceptable to the Council and who have sufficient experience. Members may use the letters M.M.E.S. 

Associate Members shall be persons who at the time of the candidature are engaged in Minerals Engineering or an ancillary branch thereof and who have sufficient practical experience as shall satisfy the Council or have passed such examinations as are acceptable to the Council.

Students shall be persons who are following approved courses of study and training for the profession of Minerals Engineering or an ancillary branch thereof. 

Associates shall be persons who desire to promote the science and practise of Minerals Engineering or wish to be associated with the activities of the Society.

The members of Minerals Engineering Society must conform to the Society's Code of Professional Conduct.

The ‘Code for Professional Conduct’ approved by The MES Council indicates for the benefit of both Society members and the general public those ethical standards to which the Society’s members should conform in the execution of their professional activities.

Application for membership is dealt with by Group Committees who make recommendation to Council for approval. Potential members should obtain an application form from either the National Secretary, the local Group secretary or download a Membership Application Form and Bankers Order Form now. You may email your scanned completed application form to the National Secretary.

Annual Subscription

On retirement from gainful employment all members who are over the age of 60, can avail themselves of 'Retired Status' in their appropriate grade by payment of an annual subscription of £ 10.00.
